Graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Carleton University in 1981, Chris McCorkell’s career has spanned many fields with great success.
Beginning in the hospitality industry in 1982, Chris began his professional career through management of all aspects of the restaurant business through his position as senior bartender, and then later as manager. Chris’ experience in this industry allowed him to provide market trend decisions to higher management of a large restaurant and bar chain through the coordination and launch of new locations across the Ottawa area.
Moving away from the hospitality industry in 1992, Chris’ role as a professional charity fundraiser led to the successful acquisition of over 10 million dollars to various Ontario non-profits through break-open ticket sales. In this role, Chris was responsible for connecting retail locations with charity organizations, establishing quality connections, as well as the coordination of municipal licencing for the retail site and charity partners.
During his professional capacity as fundraiser, Chris also founded Chriscon Property Rental Incorporation in the late 1990s. This boutique real estate services firm specializes in property management services and income property acquisition for investors. This successful company continues to serve both investor clients and his personal portfolio of over 30 rental and commercial properties; including an equestrian facility, business center with attached indoor storage units and soon-to-be build 120 unit storage facility.
Using his degree in social work, Chris and his wife Cheryl saw a need to help local youth in their community. In 1999, they launched Fresh Start Youth Residences (FSYR), a multi-location youth home with attached therapeutic horse riding program. FSYR was licensed through the Ministry of Family & Children’s Services and successfully provided care to over 400 at risk youth with a team of approximately 60 employees. Chris’s personal role aside from being a founder, was to oversee staff training and orientation as his role as a certified non-violent crisis prevention instructor.
In 2004, Chris saw the opportunity to expand his property investment company and completed his licencing to become a professional realtor in the province of Ontario. To date, Chris has been involved in hundreds of real estate transactions for both residential and commercial properties. Chris also recently completed the redevelopment & renovation of the 8,000 square foot Augusta Business and Storage Centre and has begun an expansion of three more storage buildings to add to this facility. As a developing partner, Chris has been involved in a 48-unit residential project along the St. Lawrence River near Prescott, Ontario. His expertise includes; finding, purchasing, developing and building, with skill sets in all phases of this complex process within the province of Ontario Canada.
Chris’ social background in the local and national community includes being a Rotary Club International member and past President of the Prescott, Ontario branch (2017), and was involved in sponsoring and opening his home to a Croatian exchange student for three months of his yearlong visit to Canada.
In the business community, Chris is a past chair member and a current director with Grenville CFDC, a community-based, non-profit organization funded by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario. Grenville CFDC provides grants and loans to businesses in the Leeds and Grenville corridor.
On a municipal level Chris ran for councillor in the Municipality of Augusta, losing entrance to municipal office by only a few votes. He also served on the economic development committee for two years and was instrumental in the development of the annual business showcase which is now in its successful tenth year.
Working with the director and staff, this hands-on work with ministry, staff and community, has positioned Chris to understand and have a strong network of contacts in both the business world and the political sphere.
